We carried on with our build up to Christmas this week, making various items for the tree. Clients decorated mini wooden wreaths and made Santa's from cardboard, cotton wool, string and little pom poms.
Brenda made clients an Angel for the top of the tree from a shuttlecock. Kempston Hammers Choir entertained us on Wednesday afternoon with an array of festive songs and carols. Everyone enjoyed singing along and had a great time. Chair based exercise classes continued this week. Other activities were dominoes, triominoes, word searches, colouring, a quiz and bingo. For lunch Angela cooked fish, chips and peas with lemon sponge and custard for dessert!

Christmas seems to be coming fast.
This week clients decorated Christmas gift bags. We had an array of different festive based items to use and clients thought they were lovely. Ann took her chair based exercise class this week. Other activities were bingo, dominoes, word searches, a quiz and colouring which is really popular at the moment. For lunch Angela cooked sausages with mashed potatoes, cabbage and carrots with chocolate and cherry sponge and ice cream for dessert. Preparations for Christmas got underway this week. Clients made Christmas cards. They could choose from a number of designs and really enjoyed the process. Clients really seem to enjoy colouring and their is some beautiful work, using gel pens or pencils. Other activities were word searches, a general knowledge quiz, dominoes, triominoes and bingo. We also had a table top sale this week. Many thanks to staff, volunteers, clients and their families for contributing. All proceeds to the centre. For lunch Angela cooked corned beef hash with cabbage and cauliflower and Apricot crumble with custard for dessert! With Remembrance Sunday upon us clients made poppies. They were cut from plastic bottle bottoms, shaped and coloured. Clients really liked making them.
We also played a word game on the board. I would start slowly writing a movie title and they would have to guess what it was. We then asked what year it was and if anyone knew who starred in them. It was a good discussion point, talking about old movies, their memories of going to the cinema etc. Other games were bingo triominoes, dominoes, word searches and colouring. Ann took her chair based exercise class on Wednesday and we had gentle stretching exercises on Tuesday and Thursday. For lunch Angela cooked gammon, egg, chips and peas with trifle for dessert! Next week we will be starting activities for the build up to the festive season starting with making Christmas cards. Cant believe we are in November already, soon be Christmas!!
It was Halloween week at the centre and we had all kinds of spooky items in the hall including Yorak the skeleton! Clients made ghost cakes and spooky witches fingers made from marzipan. We are also continuing to finish the butterflies we have been decorating over the last couple of weeks. Other activities included Halloween word searches, triominoes, bingo, dominoes and a body parts word quiz naming as many parts of the body, 3, 4, 5 letter words etc. Ann took her chair based exercise class on Wednesday. For lunch Angela cooked roast chicken with mashed potatoes, carrots and cabbage with apple and sultana sponge with cream for dessert! This week at the centre clients carried on with finishing their butterflies which they started last week. We had a variety of small beads which were glued into the recesses. We used glitter glue and gave them eyes and a smiley face.
On Tuesday afternoon the Wells Hollow Band played for us. They play traditional Irish, Scottish and English folk music. The tunes get you clapping and our clients love to see them play. Ann took her chair based exercise class on Wednesday. Other activities included word searches, a word game in teams, connect 4 , triominoes, dominoes and bingo. Angela cooked Cottage pie with carrots and green beans with homemade rice pudding for dessert. Well the cold weather is back, time to get wrapped up and beat the chill!
This week clients were painting large wooden butterflies. We have painted the tops in various colours and next week we will be gluing tiny beads in the recesses. I think they will look great. We played a game of guess the object. We placed different items in a bag and clients had to guess waht it was by feel alone. Other games included dominoes, triominoes, word searches Another lovely week at the Day Centre!
This week clients made bookmarks. We used glitter and shiny card and then decorated them with various items and pictures. We then made tassels from cotton or ribbon. We also played a group word game. Taking different words we asked for as many other words that rhymed with that word. This really got people thinking! We had chair based exercise classes every day, keeping everyone nicely stretched, supple and increasing strength. Other activities were dominoes, triominoes, bingo, word searches and colouring. For lunch Angela cooked a lovely corned beef hash with broccoli and carrots, with trifle for dessert! We have had another lovely week at the centre. Its nice to see our numbers start to return to pre pandemic levels and provides a lovely atmosphere.
This week clients coloured in decorative gnome wooden garden stakes. Some clients finished their bird houses and we carried out the long task of finishing our pom pom rug. We also took part in an animal quiz and other activities included dominoes, triominoes, colouring, bingo and word searches. Chair based exercise classes were carried on on all 3 days which is really beneficial to our clients. For lunch clients had fish, chips and peas with Vienetta for dessert. After the hot weather we have cooled down somewhat, although i must admit i am glad it has.
This week we carried on making pom poms for the rug. We are getting closer to having enough. We played a game of hangman on the whiteboard with a topic of classic British comedies. This is good as i can ask questions about who starred in them and the clients memories. Clients also took part in a "what am i quiz." Other activities were colouring, triominoes, word searches, dominoes and bingo. We also had our chair based exercise classes this week. For lunch Angela cooked pork chops with new potatoes, cauliflower and runner beans with apple and sultana sponge with cream for dessert! |
