As we approach May the weather is pretty cold. Lets hope the warm days are coming sooner than later.
This week at the centre clients have been colouring novelty garden stakes. There were different designs, including gnomes, butterflies, dragonflies and caterpillars. We also took part in a boys and girls names quiz which we did as a group. Other activities included, word searches, dominoes, triominoes, colouring and bingo! Ann took her chair based exercise class on Wednesday. For lunch Angela cooked cottage pie with cauliflower and peas, with meringues cream and fruit for dessert. We are holding our bring and buy sale next week. All proceeds to day centre funds. Everyone welcome.

This week we held a music quiz which is always a favourite for the clients. We play 20 songs from the 50s through to the 70s and they have to write the name of the song and who performed it, one point for the song and two for the artist. As well as the competitive side we all love to listen to the old songs and some even get up and have a dance!
We held chair based exercise classes this week which everyone enjoys. Word searches are a real favourite and we can now customise them so this week we created a towns and villages near Bedford. We also took part in a true or false quiz where we learned some interesting facts. Other activities were colouring, spot the difference, triominoes, dominoes and bingo. For lunch Angela cooked bangers and mash with broccoli, carrots and onion gravy with jam sponge and custard for dessert. Another busy and enjoyable week at the centre!
This week Brenda helped to make clients Birthday cards. They could choose their own designs and create cards for loved ones. This activity is always a favourite and i am sure you will agree there are some lovely cards. Ann took her chair based exercise class this week. It is always a pleasure to welcome Kempston Hammers choir who entertained us on Thursday afternoon. We all love and appreciate them coming to sing for us and they are great supporters of our centre. Other activities included dominoes, triominoes, bingo, colouring, sudoku, word searches and a quiz. For lunch Angela cooked gammon with egg and chips and a homemade lemon meringue pie. This week at the centre clients decorated stained glass suncatcher pictures using glass paints and sharpies. They come with a stand so they can be displayed on the window sill.
We also took part in a group quiz with answers beginning with the letter o. We also had to name towns and villages in the UK beginning with the letters of the alphabet. Other games were dominoes, triominoes, bingo, colouring, word searches and sudoku. For lunch Angela cooked a roast chicken dinner with all the trimmings and apple and sultanna sponge for dessert! Its been the build up to Easter and we have had a busy week at the centre.
Clients have been making Easter chicks. They wrapped wool around a curtain ring, made a pom pom to insert through the ring for the body and attached a head and feet and voila! Angela made cup cakes and clients decorated them with butter cream and mini eggs, suffice to say they didn't last long! Other activities were an Easter quiz, naming opposites of words, dominoes, triominoes, colouring, word searches, sudoku and bingo. We also had chair based exercise this week which we all enjoy. For lunch Angela cooked, pork slices in gravy with mashed potatoes, cabbage and cauliflower and trifle for dessert. From everyone at the Day Centre we wish you a lovely Easter weekend! At last the weather has turned a little milder and Spring is in the air!
This week at the centre we made clocks. We have saved chocolate tub lids from Christmas and these have been used for clock faces. We had a variety of different design numbers for our clients to choose. Also we had the option to paint MDF circles or squares and paint clock faces in the colours they wanted. They have really enjoyed making them and are pleased with the results. We also took part in a comedies quiz which always brings up memories and discussion. Other activities included word searches, colouring, bingo, draughts, dominoes and triominoes. For lunch Angela cooked cottage pie with peas and sweetcorn with lemon sponge and custard for dessert! Since our last post clients have been decorating magnifying glasses. There are some lovely designs with different colours and decorations and the clients really enjoyed themselves.
We also had a finish the movie title discussion which brought back memories of films they watched and actors in them. Kempston Hammers choir came into entertain us on Wednesday afternoon. We all had a lovely singalong and we thank the choir for their continued support. Ann took her chair based exercise class on Wednesday. Other activities included colouring, word searches, dominoes, triominoes, draughts and bingo. For lunch Angela cooked corned beef hash with peas and cauliflower and berry crumble and cream for dessert. This week we have been growing cress in pots. We drew faces on the pots, filled them with damp tissue paper, cotton wool and cress. When the cress grows it will look like hair.
We have also been looking back at old newspaper front page headlines and discussing any memories clients had. In addition we gave out a selection of old advertising postcards and photos of famous people to see who could recognise them. Other activities were bingo, triominoes, colouring, sudoku, dominoes, word searches and a quiz. Chair based exercise classes continue with real benefit to our clients. For lunch Angela cooked sausages and mash with green beans, broccoli and onion gravy with trifle for dessert. This week we celebrated Russell's birthday and all shared a cake baked by Angela! I don't know about you but I'm fed up with this wet and windy weather. Lets hope for a turnaround in the next few weeks!
This week was games week. We had various games that we played including, connect 4, backgammon, draughts, cards, scrabble, dominoes, triominoes and bingo. Other activities were colouring, spot the difference, word searches, a quiz and word games. We also held group discussions talking about our favourite things, including food, sweets etc. We had our chair based exercise class on Thursday. Brenda cooked home made beef pie with mashed potatoes, carrots and peas and apple strudel with cream or ice cream for dessert! Its been Valentines week at the centre. Clients have been making carnations from tissue paper in different colours. Tissues are folded, then tied with wire in the centre and all layers separated and shaped. They are then attached to a skewer which is wrapped in green garden tape. I think they look fantastic.
Other activities included, colouring, word games, spot the difference, word searches, draughts, dominoes triominoes and bingo. We continued with our chair based exercise classes which is showing real benefits with their movement and strength. For lunch Angela cooked roast pork with roast potatoes, cabbage and cauliflower with pancakes for dessert. We are all looking forward to next Tuesday when Kempston Hammers Choir will be entertaining us. |
