Our main activity this week was making birthday or other greetings cards. We have plenty of different design templates for clients to choose including layered designs. They really enjoy making them and its something personal they can give to their loved ones.
Ann and Gill took their chair based exercise classes this week. We cant say enough how we see improvement in our clients, especially getting up from their chairs. The classes aid movement and strength. We have some competitive people at our centre who love to play games. Connect 4 was a favourite this week and was kindly donated to the centre by Jonathan. Other games were draughts, triominoes, peg solitaire, word searches, colouring and a quiz. For Lunch Angela cooked pork slices, new potatoes, cabbage, cauliflower with gravy and apple sauce. For dessert we had jam sponge with custard!

Although cooler again this week i am glad we are not experiencing the heat in southern Europe!
Clients this week made their own donation boxes for the day centre from card. They were decorated and then stuck together. We played a bird anagram game on the whiteboard. We also played a memory game with discs with pictures of different fruit and had to identify pairs after the pictures were covered over. Clients also tried to beat the solitaire peg game which is quite difficult, the best score having 4 pegs left. Other activities were bingo, triominoes, draughts, word searches and a quiz. We had chair based exercise classes this week and clients are really improving getting up from a sitting position. We also welcome Lucy who is volunteering during the school holidays. Many thanks! Angela cooked cottage pie with carrots and broccoli for lunch, finished off with berry cheesecake for dessert! I wish the weather would make up its mind. Ah well hopefully things will start to improve next week.
This week we played a game in teams naming as many villages and towns in Bedfordshire beginning with A to Z. This got everyone thinking and its amazing how you miss some obvious ones out. It also brought up discussion points of where our clients have lived in the past. Other games included bingo, word searches, triominoes and a quiz. Ann took her chair based exercise class. Clients are really feeling the benefits of this class. Angela cooked sausages with mashed potatoes, cauliflower and peas for lunch with strawberries, cream and meringue for dessert! Well i wish the weather would make up its mind.
Everyone had a great time at the centre this week. Our activity led by Brenda was to make small notebooks. This was done by cutting out a front, back and spine from mount board and gluing on decorative paper of the clients choice. This was then wrapped neatly around the mount board and a post it pad was stuck in. They are really lovely and can be replaced again and again with new post it pads. Other activities were colouring, word searches, a quiz, triominoes and bingo. Ann took chair based exercise on Wednesday and we did gentle stretching chair based exercise on Tuesday. Angela cooked roast pork for lunch with cabbage, carrots, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puds and a little crackling! and for dessert we had apricot sponge with cream! |
