I don't know about you but I'm fed up with this wet and windy weather. Lets hope for a turnaround in the next few weeks!
This week was games week. We had various games that we played including, connect 4, backgammon, draughts, cards, scrabble, dominoes, triominoes and bingo. Other activities were colouring, spot the difference, word searches, a quiz and word games. We also held group discussions talking about our favourite things, including food, sweets etc. We had our chair based exercise class on Thursday. Brenda cooked home made beef pie with mashed potatoes, carrots and peas and apple strudel with cream or ice cream for dessert!

Its been Valentines week at the centre. Clients have been making carnations from tissue paper in different colours. Tissues are folded, then tied with wire in the centre and all layers separated and shaped. They are then attached to a skewer which is wrapped in green garden tape. I think they look fantastic.
Other activities included, colouring, word games, spot the difference, word searches, draughts, dominoes triominoes and bingo. We continued with our chair based exercise classes which is showing real benefits with their movement and strength. For lunch Angela cooked roast pork with roast potatoes, cabbage and cauliflower with pancakes for dessert. We are all looking forward to next Tuesday when Kempston Hammers Choir will be entertaining us. What a wet, cold time we are having at the moment. Lets hope some warmer weather is on the horizon.
Last week Brenda helped our clients make birthday cards. There were various designs and the clients always enjoy the process. This week we held a music quiz. We play 20 songs and get a point for naming the song and 2 points for the artist. we always have a good time and love a singalong and some even get up for a dance. Many thanks to the Wells Hollow Band who entertained us on Wednesday afternoon. They play traditional folk music and we all enjoy listening to them play. Other activities included, colouring, word searches, spot the difference, triominoes, dominoes and bingo. We had our chair based exercise class on all 3 days this week. For lunch Brenda cooked a lovely beef stew and mashed potato, with banoffee cheesecake with cream and sliced bananas. We ended our bring and buy sale this week. Many thanks to all who contributed items and we raised over £140. This week we carried on our theme of animal hanging ornaments. In the past we have made sheep and a bear. This time we have been making owls. We wrap wool around a curtain ring, then make a pom pom for its belly. Its head beak and feet are cut out from coloured foam sheets. The clients really enjoy making them and i think they look really good.
It was Burns night this week and we had a Scottish quiz and word search. Other activities were playing cards, dominoes, colouring and triominoes. Ann took her chair based exercise class this week. For lunch Angela cooked gammon, egg, chips and peas with apple and sultana sponge for dessert. We also cooked haggis for anyone who wanted to try! Next week our bring and buy sale starts which will last for 2 weeks. If anyone has any unwanted gifts or items they want to donate it would be much appreciated. Wow, what a cold week. I am certainly looking forward to warmer times.
This week clients had a choice of various activities. We decorated small boxes where we placed a chocolate inside which could be given to a loved one. We also decorated wind chimes, butterflies and stained glass style circles to place in the window. On Thursday we had a chair based exercises class. Other activities were a quiz, word searches, dominoes, triominoes and bingo. For lunch Angela cooked pork slices with roast potatoes carrots and broccoli with berry strudel and ice cream for dessert. If anyone has any unwanted gifts or items for our bring and buy sale it would be much appreciated. The sale starts on Tuesday 30th January to Thursday 1st February. Well we certainly are in the middle of winter and its a very cold spell at the moment.

After the Christmas holidays its good to get back to some gentle stretching and strengthening! For lunch, clients had cottage pie with cauliflower and cabbage and trifle for dessert. We will be holding a bring and buy sale at the Centre in the last week of January. If anyone has any unwanted gifts or any items they wish to contribute it would be much appreciated. Well its great to be back after the holidays. Clients were having a good chat about their Christmas, sharing stories and what gifts they had. This week we made bird feeders. We threaded multigrain hoops on cord and also smeared peanut butter on pine cones and then dipped them in bird seed. I am sure the birds will appreciate them. Ann took her chair based exercise class on Wednesday and it was good to have a gentle stretch after the holidays. Other activities were dominoes, triominoes, colouring, word searches and a quiz with answers beginning with o. For lunch Angela cooked Sausages with mashed potatoes, green beans and carrots with jam sponge an custard for dessert! It's been Christmas party week at the centre and everyone had had such a good time!
We started the day with tea and toast and a good old natter about peoples plans for Christmas. Our first game was to try and throw hoops on my antlers. If you got one on you won a chocolate. We then played hangman on the whiteboard, with clients guessing Christmas movies, songs and items. After that we broke off for tea and mince pies and some had a small glass of sherry. To finish the morning we played Christmas bingo and sang some carols and songs to really get us in the festive mood. For lunch Angela cooked a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and for dessert we had a choice of Christmas pudding with cream or profiteroles. Many thanks to Angela and Pauline who did a fantastic job in the kitchen. Its the one time of the year where staff, volunteers and clients sit together for lunch which is really nice. After lunch we had a raffle where everyone got a prize. Many thanks to staff, volunteers and clients family who kindly contributed to the raffle, we are really grateful. We then played pass the parcel which is always fun and finished the afternoon with a visit from Santa who gave out gifts to everyone. Its so heart-warming to see our clients having a lovely time and that's the aim of our centre every day we are open throughout the year. I would like to thank our dedicated team of staff who work tirelessly for the centre. Also our wonderful band of volunteers who give up their time to support our charity. We wouldn't be able to do it without their help! From all the staff, volunteers and trustees we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy new year! THE DAY CENTRE WILL BE CLOSED OVER THE HOLIDAY PERIOD. OUR LAST DAY IS THURSDAY 14TH DECEMBER. WE REOPEN ON TUESDAY 2ND JANUARY 2024. We have really been getting into the festive swing with Christmas music playing.
Clients this week have been making more festive decorations. We have used small cardboard cones and wrapped fringed tissue paper around and decorated with small items to make mini Christmas trees. We have also been colouring in small wooden wreaths for the tree. Other activities were a Christmas quiz, colouring, word searches, triominoes, dominoes and bingo. Ann took her chair based exercise class on Wednesday. For lunch Angela cooked pork chops with mashed potatoes, cabbage, carrots and home made rice pudding for dessert. We are now looking forward to our Christmas parties next week which will be the final week we are open until the new year. We carried on with our build up to Christmas this week, making various items for the tree. Clients decorated mini wooden wreaths and made Santa's from cardboard, cotton wool, string and little pom poms.
Brenda made clients an Angel for the top of the tree from a shuttlecock. Kempston Hammers Choir entertained us on Wednesday afternoon with an array of festive songs and carols. Everyone enjoyed singing along and had a great time. Chair based exercise classes continued this week. Other activities were dominoes, triominoes, word searches, colouring, a quiz and bingo. For lunch Angela cooked fish, chips and peas with lemon sponge and custard for dessert! |
