Well we are officially in Summertime but it certainly does not feel it. Lets hope the warmer weather picks up over the next week or so!
This week clients decorated their own coasters. There were some lovely designs and they were coloured with an assortment of gel pens and then spray varnished for use. Last week clients made bird wind chimes which were lovely. We also took part in an alphabet quiz on the whiteboard with answers from A to Z. We did really well and scored 122. Other activities included word searches, triominoes and bingo. Ann took her chair based exercise class on Wednesday. On Thursday afternoon Terry came in to entertain the clients playing his saxophone. The clients really enjoy listening to some old tunes. Angela cooked a lovely chicken with roast potatoes, runner beans, cauliflower, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and gravy. For dessert was meringues with cream and fresh fruit. It was volunteers week and as a note of appreciation we gave a thank you card and an engraved keyring. We rely on our band of volunteers and are forever grateful for their work and dedication, Thank You!

We had a games week at the centre. We had various board games out for us to try including, draughts, triominoes, scrabble and dominoes. On our top table clients could try out skittles and bagatelle which they really enjoyed.
Also various word searches and a quiz were available. We also have plenty of books and magazines for clients to read. On Tuesday afternoon Kempston Hammers Choir came to entertain us and we all really loved singing along to some old tunes. Many happy returns to Thelma who celebrates her birthday on Monday, she was thrilled with her cake, made by Angela and the choir who sang happy birthday! Many thank to the choir for their continued support. Ann took her chair based exercise class to stretch and strengthen a few muscles and joints and clients are really feeling the benefit. On Wednesday afternoon we all took part in a music quiz, playing 20 tunes and trying to name the song and the artist. Its always fun and we all really enjoy the music. For lunch Angela cooked fish, chips and peas with a jam sponge and custard for dessert! It would be lovely to see some nice dry, warm weather but alas we are not blessed with such luck at the moment.
This week clients coloured in sun catchers for the windows. We also obtained two draughts sets for the clients to use. Its been a long time since i had played draughts and the clients enjoyed watching games or taking part. We also played a word game on the board trying to find word ending in, ink, ale or ain. This was a more challenging game but thought we did really well overall. Other games included word searches, an occupations quiz, triominoes and bingo. Ann and Gill took chair based exercise classes on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. For lunch Angela cooked corned beef hash with Carrots and cabbage with lemon meringue pie for dessert. We have been celebrating the build up to the Coronation this week.
The hall has been decorated with bunting and paper chains all done by our clients. We have been playing some classic British songs, especially the Beatles! Our clients took part in a special Coronation word search and also a Royal quiz. We also had various old newspapers and photographs from the past celebrating Royal events which they really enjoyed looking through. In the afternoon we played Royal Family bingo with first prize being a celebratory tin of coronation biscuits and a smaller pack for second prize. Everyone received a commemorative bookmark to take home. Ann took her chair based exercise class on Wednesday. Angela cooked bangers and mash with cauliflower and peas for lunch and trifle for dessert. She also made some cup cakes decorated with red white and blue sprinkles. We also had a toast, (non alcoholic) to King Charles and everyone is looking forward to watching the event on Saturday! |
